The People's Democratic Party (PDP) Chapter Akwa Ibom has charged the Inspector General of the Police and the All Progressive Congress (APC) with the indiscriminate arrest of their members. Akwa Ibom PDP claims N100 million in damages. The PDP claimed that the police, working in conjunction with APC, arrested its members and planned to keep them behind bars until they could do so.
The PDP claimed that the police arrested and planned to keep their members behind bars until after the election.
The party claimed that its members were selected and locked up, especially in Essien Udim, without being charged with the court. The PDP also charged the police with plotting to frame their state leaders.
In the case marked HU / FRU18/2019, the PDP held that the actions of the police contravened Section 40 of the 199 Constitution and Articles 11 and 13 of the African Charter on Human Rights and Peoples ' Rights respectively.
